Web Window Shopping

The retail clothing stores in my city are not the places to go if you’re aiming for an original look.  I’ve been turning to the internet more and more for my shopping. It’s still a hit-or-miss operation.  I try to shop at retailers who offer free shipping, and I’ll sometimes order things in two sizes so I can choose the best fit.

Here are some of the online sites where I enjoy shopping (or just looking):
Threadless: A t-shirt company that prints user-submitted designs.  Occasionally, they have $10 sales on most of their items.  I notice their tees are of a heavier weight and sturdier print than what I find in the retail stores.
Shoes.com: I usually have an easy time finding dress shoes at stores like Macy’s and TJ Maxx, but casual shoes are a problem.  I like Converse sneakers and Ked’s flats, but they are hard to find.  Shoes.com has a wide selection of both these brands, at reasonable prices.
Daddy O’s: When it comes to dressing up for the holidays, I like the retro-style party dresses sold by this company.

The Dark Knight

Saw The Dark Knight today, and yes, it lived up to the hype.

Every actor and actress, from Christian Bale down to the extras, earned their paychecks on this one.

Heath Ledger delivered the most psychotic version of the Joker I’ve ever seen.  It’s a shame he didn’t live to see the result of his hard work.  I hope Christopher Nolan doesn’t attempt to bring the character back in the next Batman film, because it just won’t work with any other actor.

Aaron Eckhart also did an excellent job as Harvey Dent/Two Face.  However, I didn’t like what ultimately became of him. His character should’ve been carried over into the next movie.
I read somewhere that Nolan won’t be bringing Catwoman to the screen.  I hope this isn’t true, because I am still trying to get that awful movie with Halle Berry out of my head. At this point, I feel Catwoman is the strongest opponent left out there for Batman to face.  I can’t imagine the next movie with The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, or Clayface.
I’d love to see Catwoman and The Riddler team up, but they will have to be careful not to make him into the Joker lite.

Fanfic Goodness: Batman

In anticipation of the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight, I’ve been browsing the internet in search of some fanfic.  I came across this series of stories by Philppa on fanfiction.net. Set in the time after Batman Begins, the series focuses on an interesting what if:  the young boy rescued by Rachel Dawes from the terror in the Narrows turns out to be the young Robin.

So far, I’ve read:
The Nestling: Bruce’s life becomes even more complicated when Wayne Manor receives a new inhabitant…Dick Grayson. The boy hides behind a wall of silence, scarred by his tragic past. But Batman is going to teach this cripped bird how to fly.
Blithering Bats, It’s Halloween Batman: (Pure fluff!) Alfred volunteers Bruce to be a chaperone at a neighborhood trick-or-treat outing for Dick’s first Halloween at Wayne Manor.
And I’m currently reading:
Toward A Dark Horizon: When Bruce’s custody of Richard Grayson is challenged, he finds himself in a deadly race to discover the truth about his young ward.

Pleasantries…

Finally got most of the kinks out of the template, so here I go…

I’m Daisy Kingston, and this is my blog. This is where I’ll be posting about various forms of entertainment.  If I read a book, saw a movie, heard a song, or browsed a website I enjoyed, I’ll post about it here. When I like something, I REALLY like it! From time to time, I’ll also take a look back on some of my all-time favorites. These are things I was introduced to as a child, which stay in my mind to this day.
My interests are varied, but I pay special attention to things sci-fi and fantasy. I have also recently discovered the world of fanfiction and fanart.
Let’s see how far this blogging thing goes.
