I have no experience with the world of professional wrestling, except for a brief dance with Hulkamania back in the 1980’s. Professional wresting is usually known for its choreographed moves, over-the-top personalities, and soap-opera like plots. The sport is also known to have quite a down side. Who knew this could make for a serious Oscar-worthy drama?
The Wrestler is not about the glitz and glamour. It’s about love, failure, desperation, and loss. Mickey Rourke, as the aging wrestler Randy the Ram, lives up to the hype. Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood were also excellent in their supporting roles.
Even if you don’t like wrestling, give this movie a chance. It’s well-written, and comes from the heart.
Was cleaning out the basement a year or so ago when I found these in a shoebox. They’re too small to be postcards, but I know they are not photos taken by anyone in my family. All I know is these are images of downtown Detroit, maybe from around the early 1970’s. (Which is before my time.) I scanned them and saved them to a Flickr account, then forgot about them. Today I remembered them and thought I’d share. Enjoy!
